Building an Efficient Home in Parker

Builder and home owner education in energy efficient construction practices is the key too affordable, durable and comfortable housing for Parker residents.

The Town's goal is for Parker be one of the top choices when it comes to housing stock. Parker’s municipal support of the ENERGY STAR New Homes program encourages homebuilders to construct homes with increased durability and market value, while reducing operating costs for homeowners.

ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. ENERGY STAR qualified products and practices help homeowners save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE.

In February 2008, the Town was awarded a matching grant from the Governor's Energy Office for the regional implementation of the ENERGY STAR New Homes program.

In the past, the Town has been able to provide a reasonably high level of training at no cost to the builders and homeowners. However, the ENERGY STAR Grant provides Parker with the opportunity to provide training at a higher level. Although local trainers are good, national trainers bring in a whole new perspective.  See below for a list of upcoming courses.

Find out more about ENERGY STAR from their Web site at www.energystar.gov.

Insulate Colorado
Douglas County is partnering with the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) to offer rebates to qualifying homeowners for the installation of insulation and air sealing measures through the Insulate Colorado program.

Qualified homeowners can apply for a rebate of 20 percent off the cost of installation of either attic or exterior wall insulation and basic recommended air sealing measures, or $300 maximum per home, whichever is less through the Insulate Colorado program. Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted and will only be issued to homeowners who meet all of the qualifications.  A rebate will not be given for new construction and homeowners must use an eligible contractor who has had the GEO program training.  Copies of all contractor invoices and official insulation cards must be submitted with the Homeowner Rebate Request Form

For program guidelines, a list of eligible contractors (available beginning Sept. 8) and a Homeowner Rebate Request Form, please visit www.douglas.co.us/community/Insulate_Colorado.html.
