Recycling Information

E-Cycling Event
The Town, along with Waste Management Recycle America held an "e-cycle," or Electronics Recycling event on Saturday, March 29 at Parker Town Hall, located at 20120 E. Mainstreet.

Over 400 Parker area residents participated, and the event generated approximately three semi-trailer trucks of electronic waste. An estimated 60,000 pounds of electronic waste was collected.

Participants were charged a fee depending on the item. Costs ranged from $3 for desktop printers to $25 for big screen televisions. There was no charge for items such as keyboards, cell phone, and laptops. Fees are used to supplement the cost of recycling the material, which is primarily done by hand. The Town of Parker hopes to make this an annual event.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), electronics make up approximately 1 percent of municipal solid waste. More than 3.2 million tons of electronic waste is discarded in U.S. landfills each year, with an estimated 50 million computers becoming obsolete annually. However, most material can be salvaged and reused.

Check back for information on future E-Cycling events.
