Spotlight on Councilmember Debbie Lewis!
If you are involved in the Parker community, you’ve probably met Town Councilmember Debbie Lewis! From committees and commissions to social events and galas – Debbie is involved!
Debbie served on Council for 4½ years beginning in April 1996 and was again elected to Town Council in November 2004. Arts are her passion and she swears her political career grew from roots first planted when she served on the Parker Cultural Commission! Debbie is currently appointed to the Town's Budget Committee, Council Communications Committee, Cultural Commission, Legislative Affairs Committee and the Parker Coalition. Debbie also represents the Town as a Council liaison to the Parker Chamber of Commerce , the Parker Economic Development Council and the Partnership of Douglas County Governments.
Debbie has lived in the Parker area since 1981 and now lives in Canterberry Crossing. She is extremely involved in the Parker community and operates Help-U-Sell Parker Real Estate with her husband Mark. They have a blended family of five kids between the ages of 22 and 36, as well as two grandchildren ages 9 and 12. Debbie’s mom, who lives in Tennessee, is also a frequent houseguest.
Debbie serves as the Town Liaison to the Parker Cultural Commission, the Parker Chamber of Commerce, the Parker Water and Sanitation District and the Douglas County Housing Authority. She also serves as an alternate to the Southeast Business Partnership and the Denver Regional Council of Governments. Debbie also serves as 1st Vice President of the Douglas County Republic Women. In what little spare time Debbie has left, she enjoys cooking, eating and listening to blues and rock and roll.
Debbie chose to serve on Town Council because she has lived in the community a long time and felt she could bring a variety of knowledge and experience to the table. She also believed that her strong collaborative skills could help build and foster strong relationships throughout the Parker community and Douglas County.
Some of Debbie’s priorities on Council include the acquisition of parks and open space for the community and helping to establish a performing arts center in the downtown Parker corridor. Debbie feels that arts and culture are one area that Parker and Douglas County are seriously deficient in and would like to meet that need in Parker. Not only would this allow area residents enjoy arts within their own community, but it would keep these tax dollars in Douglas County as well.
Debbie would like citizens to know that the Town Council puts in a great deal of time on behalf of the community. Some of the goals that the Town Council is committed to are acquiring open space, collaborating with other entities to make a Parker cultural facility a reality and making the Town’s long-term transportation plan come to fruition. Council is also committed to bring a variety of commercial and retail to Parker to continue to make this a full-service community, while maintaining the home town feel that many have come to enjoy.
