Mainstreet Streetscape Improvement Project Update

Update for the week of May 12, 2008:

This week, the contractor will continue to perform potholing for underground utilities to verify where they may conflict with the storm drain pipe installation.  This operation is almost completed.

It is anticipated that  Xcel will be on site sometime during the week or the following week to be relocating any gas lines and gas line services that are going to be in the way.   This will constitute the removal of concrete paving,  lowering the lines in conflict, and then patching back the excavated areas with asphalt paving.  During this work, there will be areas of  Mainstreet that will have parking restrictions, and no parking signs will be placed at these locations to forewarn the traveling public. It is anticipated that the parking restrictions will only be at the sites that the utility work is taking place.

Concrete Express began performing removal items in the area of the Pikes Peak Parking lot, North of Mainstreet this week.  This will continue, and it is anticipated that curb and gutter placement for the drive into the existing parking lots will begin.  This will  restrict some of the overflow parking that occurs during lunch time that spills over into the gravel area of the parking lot east of the Twenty Mile building.  This will probably continue through out the duration of the construction period.

Temporary construction fencing (orange plastic fence) will start being installed along the O’Brien Park sidewalk and around the trees that are to be protected  in anticipation of storm drain installation. The contractor will also begin sawcutting the concrete pavement in Mainstreet around the areas that are to be removed for storm drain placement.

It  has not been decided for sure, but the contractor may also remove the center island in Mainstreet that is planned to be removed, to facilitate storm drain placement in this area.  This island removal will give the traveling public more room to maneuver through the  pipe operation.  When this is removed, the area will be temporarily paved back with asphalt.

Thank you all for your patience and “see you next week.”
