Make your plans for the month ahead with our list of five things to know for April.
Arbor Day Celebration April 27:
Make your way to Discovery Park Saturday, April 27 for Parker Parks and Recreation’s Arbor Day Celebration. At this annual event, you can pick up a free tree or shrub seedling, take part in family-friendly activities and have a delicious pancake breakfast!
Our Parks and Forestry Team will also be on hand to help you pick out the best tree for your yard as well as answer any questions about tree selection and care. Find additional details on the Arbor Day Celebration webpage.
Serve your community during National Volunteer Month:
April is National Volunteer Month, and in the Town of Parker, there’s a volunteer program or opportunity for everyone.
These offerings will be exhibited at a special Volunteer Open House on April 2 at the Parker Fieldhouse. Representatives from Town departments will be on hand at the open house to share information about their volunteer programs and answer any questions you may have.
Use any of the following links to access information about specific programs: adopt a street/flowerbed/trail/open space, Town boards and commissions, Town event volunteers, Teen Court, youth sports volunteer coaches, Parker Parks and Recreation volunteer opportunities, Parker Arts volunteer opportunities and Parker Police Department volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer options with the Town can also be found at Volunteer Connect Douglas County and www.ParkerOnline.org/Volunteer.
Summer activity registration open:
Registration for a majority of Parker Parks and Recreation’s summer adult and youth sports leagues opens in April (registration for a few sports began in March). All registrations open online at 10 a.m. on their assigned dates. For schedules, more details or to register, visit www.ParkerRec.com/Sports.
Summer Day Camp registration opens April 3 for returning families and April 4 for new families.
Visit the Parker Parks and Recreation website for a complete listing of summer sports, programs, fitness classes and special events.
Parker Arts offers a summer’s worth of camps and programs, too. Get the details and sign up on either the Summer Break Camps or Education Program webpages.
Keep up with seasonal road construction:
With warmer weather comes the start of road construction season. The Town offers several resources for staying informed with these projects, including an interactive Street Maintenance Map and the Capital Improvement Projects Update. You may also contact the Public Works and Engineering Department with construction-related questions at 303.840.9546.
Several projects will also be taking place near, but outside of, the Town’s official boundaries this spring and summer. Visit Douglas County’s road work website for additional resources.
Monthly public meetings:
Parker Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Mondays, April 1 and 15 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet. The Council will hold study sessions at 5:30 p.m. Mondays April 8 and 22 in the Pikes Peak Community Room at Town Hall.
The Parker Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursdays, April 11 and 25 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
