 There will be plenty of activity this August in the Town of Parker. See what’s in store with our list of five things to know for the month ahead.
 
Full slate of special events:
 There are special events a-plenty in August, with something for everyone to enjoy. The final free Discovery Park concert of the summer takes place Thursday, Aug. 2 with a performance from Tunisia, with the First Friday Art Walk a day later on Friday, Aug. 3 presented by the Downtown Business Alliance of Parker.
 
 Neighbors will gather with the Parker Police Department during National Night Out Saturday, Aug. 4, as well as at the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce’s Movies in the Park.
 
 Parker Arts and the Parker Cultural and Scientific Commission then host the Honey Festival Saturday, Aug. 5, followed by the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker’s Brewfest Saturday, Aug. 18, and Art in the Park with the Parker Artists Guild Friday through Sunday, Aug. 24 to 26. Round out the month with the Chamber’s Wine Walk on Friday, Aug. 24.
 
So Long to Summer 5K/10K & Family Fun Trek Aug. 11:
 Celebrate the last bit of summer with Parker Parks and Recreation at the So Long to Summer 5K/10K & Family Fun Trek the morning of Saturday, Aug. 11.
 
 Part of the Parker Parks and Recreation Run Series, the 5K and 10K races are professionally timed. The Family Trek is about 1.3 miles of laid-back, outdoorsy fun. Registered participants will receive a race tech shirt, a delicious post-race pancake breakfast and a chance to win prizes.
 
Annual recreation facility maintenance closures planned:
 Recreation facility schedules will be impacted by annual maintenance closures in August and into September. The Parker Recreation Center will be closed Aug. 13 to 19 with the Parker Fieldhouse closure taking place Aug. 27 to Sept. 3. Memberships will be honored at other Parker Parks and Recreation facilities during closures.
 
Parker Arts begins new season:
 Tickets for Parker Arts’ 2018/2019 season go on sale to the general public Wednesday, Aug. 1. Whether you are into national touring acts, hilarious comedy, theater performances, and live music or just want to explore the arts, there’s an event, or several, perfect for you in the upcoming season’s lineup.
 
 Scheduled performances include A Chorus Line in September and October, The New Chinese Acrobats in October, Jane Lynch in November, Howie Mandel next January, and more from the Family Discovery Series, Comedy & Cocktails nights, Friday Night Jazz, The Uncharted Series and Wonderbound dance company.

Monthly public meetings:
 Parker Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 6 and 20 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet. The Council will hold study sessions at 5:30 p.m. Mondays Aug. 13 and 27 in the Pikes Peak Community Room at Town Hall.
 
 The Parker Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
 
 The Parker Special Licensing Authority will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
